This years US Open is at Winged Foot, and the course is playing extremely long. It’s almost 7,500 yards this year.
The rough is said to be “gnarly”, and nearly 5-6 inches thick. Last years Champion Gary Woodland was asked about the rough at Winged Food, and said “We lost a ball for about five minutes, and it was right in front me. The golf ball disappears pretty quickly.”
To have any shot of scoring well on this course the player will have to be both long, and accurate off the tee to set up his approach shot. That leaves players like Cameron Champ in a compromising position, but bodes well for players like Bryson DeChambeau.
Xander Schauffele is 16/1 to win it. He’s finished in the top 6 in all of his US Open appearances. Last year he finished 3rd. He’s never won a major.
The Golfers rated most likely to win by Sportsbooks are:
- Dustin Johnson
- Justin Thomas
- John Rahm
- Bryson DeChambeau
- Rory Mcilroy
